Mock Interview Quick Reference Guide

Thank you for participating in this Mock Interview Event. Each interview will last 45-50 minutes consisting of 25-30 minutes for questions and 15-20 minutes for feedback. You will have a 10-15 minute break before your next interview begins. 

An evaluation has been provided for you to fill out during the interview and give to the student upon completion of the mock interview. We suggest giving feedback on dress, professionalism, nonverbal communication, quality of answers, ability to answer questions clearly and concisely, and the appropriate use of the CAR method when answering behavioral-based questions. 

There are sample questions below that may be used, and a link to major/profession-specific questions on our website. Please feel free to ask additional questions you deem beneficial. We encourage students to use the C.A.R. method to frame their responses. 

C = Context; A = Action Taken; R = Results.

Responses to questions should provide the Context (background) of a specific situation (the story), the Actions you took, and the Results you achieved. The focus of the answer should be on what did “I” do, and what actions did “I” take.

Behavioral Based Questions:

Give an example of a time when you went above and beyond the call of duty.

Describe the toughest group that you have had to get cooperation from. How did you handle it?

Tell me about a time when you had to deal with a very upset customer or co-worker.

Describe your most significant written document, report, or presentation, which you had to complete.

Tell me about a time you used your analytical skills to solve a problem.
