Volunteer Information for Mock Interviews

Miami University Center for Career Exploration & Success Mock Interview Program provides students with real-world interviewing experience by engaging seasoned professionals as volunteer interviewers.

Types of Mock Interviewers

  • Phone/Skype Interviewer
  • Regularly Scheduled Interviewer (several times per semester)
  • Event Interviewer (once or twice a year)

When Can I Volunteer?

  • Daily Interviews
    • Monday – Thursday, 8am – 8pm at the Center for Career Exploration & Success at Armstrong Student Center (last interview starts at 7 pm); Friday, 8 am – 5 pm at the Center for Career Exploration & Success at Armstrong Student Center (last interview starts at 4 pm)
    • Fall 2017 begins Sept. 4 and ends Dec. 8
  • Fall Semester Special Events
    • Accounting, Finance, ISA, and all Economics Majors: Sept. 7 (9 am – 5 pm) at the Center for Career Exploration & Success at Armstrong Student Center
    • Marketing, Strategic Communications, and Management: Sept. 7 (9 am – 5 pm) at the Center for Career Exploration & Success at Armstrong Student Center
    • All Majors: Sept. 7 (9 am – 5 pm) at the Center for Career Exploration & Success at Armstrong Student Center
    • CEC, Engineering and Supply Chain Management: Sept. 7 (9 am – 5 pm) at the Center for Career Exploration & Success at Armstrong Student Center

How Mock Interviews Work

Interviews will be scheduled every 60 minutes – 15-20 minute interview, 20-25 minute critique, 15 minute preparation for next interview.

  • Arrive 30 minutes before first appointment (45 if it is your first time interviewing here)
  • Meet Mock Interview (MI) Coordinator — Get room assignment
  • Receive student interview packets
  • Review students resume
  • Greet student
  • Interview student — Complete feedback form
  • Review with student his/her ratings on:
    • Resume
    • Appearance, Poise, Delivery, Language
    • Responses to: Open-ended, Behavior-based, Career specific questions
    • Closing - Student asks questions, expresses interest, asks for follow-up info, thanks interviewer
  • Prepare for next student

Armstrong Student Center (unless otherwise noted)

Parking

Volunteer Mock Interviewers are required to have a parking permit. You will receive a parking permit upon arriving at Armstrong Student Center (or other location) which will require you to return to your car in the parking lot to hang the parking tag.
