Setting Up for Career Success in the Spring

Photo of a pair of hands holding soil with a plant budding. As many of you know, spring will continue to be a busy time for career exploration and the job and internship search on campus. The spring recruitment cycle kicks off with the Spring Internship and Career Expo (Spring ICE) where hundreds of employers will come to campus to recruit across majors for internship and full-time positions.

In addition, through Handshake, thousands of jobs will post throughout the semester. If your student is looking for a part-time job, internship, or full-time job starting in the summer, winter term can be a great time to do employer research and develop an exceptional resume and LinkedIn profile. In addition, students can use the time to start preparing for how to effectively interview.

If your student is looking to make the most of time at home, some of the following are great ways to get ahead of the curve:

  • Attend one of the Center for Career Exploration & Success' online webinars to learn more about Basic Interviewing, Resume preparation, and LinkedIn profiles. A link to register and a complete list of winter webinar programs can be found on the Center for Career Exploration & Success' programs webpage. Basic Interviewing is required for students to be able to participate in on-campus recruiting interviews and mock interviews. An updated list of spring programs will be posted in January.
  • Update his/her Handshake profile and make sure all of the information is accurate and the resume on file is the most current.
  • Research future career possibilities using the job and internship search links on the Miami University Center for Career Exploration & Success website.
  • Read the Spring ICE FAQ to learn more about the event.

As you know, it is never too early for students to start thinking about the future. In addition to our winter term workshops and Spring ICE, this spring we will offer dozens of workshops and programs on campus to help your student with career development and planning for his/her future!

As always, your students can meet with a career advisor who can help with the career exploration and planning process by scheduling an appointment through Handshake. All of these will be posted on the Career Center programs webpage. We look forward to partnering with you and your student to ensure that your student feels confident about the future!
