Farmer School hosting second annual Cradle of Marketers

February 2014

For the second year, the Farmer School of Business at Miami University is hosting top marketing executives from internationally known companies for its annual Cradle of Marketers. The daylong event is Friday, February 28, 2014 in Taylor Auditorium starting at 9:00 a.m.

The event was the brainchild of alumni Jenny Rooney ('92), editor for Forbes CMO Network, and David Knox ('03), CMO for Rockfish Interactive. They were surprised by how many Chief Marketing Officers, vice presidents and "C Suite" executives at major corporations were also Miami grads. Their concept of creating an event to bring these notable alumni back to campus was warmly welcomed, both by the Farmer School and by the executives. Rooney coined the term "Cradle of Marketers" to give a nod to Miami's well-known status as the "Cradle of Coaches."

This year's panel includes "A List" marketing executives from Rockfish, Coca-Cola, Louisville Slugger., Beam Brands, Nationwide, Octagon, Carat, Exact Target, Disqus and Devry.

"This event provides students with access to high level executives, all of whom have been in the students' shoes and who are excited to share their insights and keys to success. The executives are excited about reconnecting with faculty members, visiting the campus and meeting the next generation of marketing leaders. It's mutually beneficial for everyone involved," says Dahlstrom.

The Cradle of Marketers is a day-long event open to Miami students, faculty and staff. This year's topics are: "Meet the Experts: Who they are, What they do & How they got there" "Keys to Success: Insights for the Start of Your Marketing Career" - a CMO's forum to discuss current industry trends, branding and social media; "What I Wish I Knew When I Left Oxford" - an opportunity for speakers to offer advice to students through personal reflections and practical experiences and "Career Opportunities: Client- Agency Relationships" a guide to teach students about the client (brand) and agency career paths and the relationships between the two.
