Cradle Set to Rock

February 2015

For the third year in a row, the Farmer School will host its “Cradle of Marketers“ event, featuring fourteen Miami alumni who are top marketing executives at internationally known companies. The daylong event will be held Friday, March 6th in the Farmer School’s Taylor Auditorium starting at 9:00 a.m.

The event originated from a collaboration between alumni Jenny Rooney ('92), editor for Forbes CMO Network, David Knox ('03), CMO for Rockfish Interactive and the Farmer School Department of Marketing. Their concept of creating an event to bring these notable alumni back to campus was warmly welcomed, both by the Farmer School students and the executives. Rooney coined the term "Cradle of Marketers" to give a nod to Miami's well-known status as the "Cradle of Coaches."

This year’s panel includes top marketing executives from Louisville Slugger, SAP, Nationwide, Forbes CMO Network, Rockfish, Everything but the House, Octagon, SMART Technologies, FanDuel, gyro, EXOS, Scottrade, Devry and Sprinkles Cupcakes.

"This “homecoming” event provides students with access to high level executives, all of whom have been in the students' shoes and who are excited to share their insights and keys to success. The executives are excited about reconnecting with faculty members, visiting the campus and meeting the next generation of marketing leaders. It's mutually beneficial for everyone involved," noted Bob Dahlstrom, Farmer School Department of Marketing Chairman.

The Cradle of Marketers event is open to Miami students, faculty and staff. This year's topics are: “How I Got Here” Miami’s Top Marketers discuss their careers in marketing and strategies to get to CMO; “Marketing Today” Miami ‘s Top Marketers discuss their perspectives on the current state of marketing practice; and “Pushing Beyond 8%” a Panel discussion with students on developing more female CMOs.

New this year, the CMOs will participate in a Shark Tank experience with Strategy Works teams who are working on a project for Harman Industries. The CMOs will put Miami’s graduating seniors through their paces before they begin their marketing careers.
