Courses and Requirements

The Global Studies programs through the Farmer School of Business are open to all majors at Miami who meet the prerequisites.  Students participating in this program will take FIN 417 (3 credit hours) & BUS 373 (3 credit hours). 

Prerequisites

FIN 301 and 45 earned hours by December 2017 and  2.60 GPA by August 2017. Please note that priority will be given to business majors and rising seniors for this program.  Students must be at least 18 years old by the program departure date.  26 students will be enrolled in this program.

First Semester Expectations

During first semester there will be pre-departure meetings that require mandatory attendance. These meetings will address some course work as well as travel and cultural preparation.

Courses Offered

BUS 373: International Business in Focus (3 credit hours)

Taught by: Dr. Thomas Boulton

Survey of the interrelationships of world business operations; an introduction to current conceptual perspectives; cultural, political/legal and economic constraints, the international financial and trade frameworks, and the problems, challenges, and opportunities facing the multinational corporation in a particular country or region of the world.

FIN 417: International Business Finance (3 credit hours) 

Taught by: Dr. Thomas Boulton

Prerequisite:  FIN 301

An introduction to the macro and market environments in which multinational firms operate and the additional risks they confront in a multi-currency world. Emphasis is on the decision-making process with an international perspective.
