Jeffrey H. Von Deylen Family Research/Study Abroad Scholarship to benefit students in accounting

November 2013

The Farmer School of Business is pleased to announce a major gift from alumnus Jeffrey H. Von Deylen to support accounting students pursuing research in the area of international study. The gift establishes the Jeffrey H. Von Deylen Family Research / Study Abroad Scholarship.

Jeff received his Bachelor's in Science from Miami in 1986 with a major in accounting. He was named president of Savvis, a global leader in cloud and managed solutions, in November 2012. Jeff joined Savvis in 2003 as chief financial officer and board member. In 2008, he transitioned from his role as CFO to senior vice president of global operations and client services. Jeff started his career in public accounting and has held various accounting and financial roles in public companies both in the United States and internationally. He and his wife, Sandra, live in St. Charles, Missouri with their three children.

"The Von Deylen gift is a significant factor in enhancing engagement between faculty and students as they focus their research on global issues," said Marc Rubin, Chair of the Department of Accountancy. "We appreciate the generosity of the Von Deylen family in creating this opportunity for Miami students."

This award will allow accounting students to work more closely with faculty in mentor/scholar roles and highlights the importance of the promotion of scholarly work within the Farmer School.

"This gift is a testament to the support our outstanding alumni continue to give to future generations of Farmer School students and faculty. We are especially pleased that Jeff has chosen to support our efforts to provide students with a global perspective, which we believe to be a critical success variable." said Ray Gorman, interim dean of the Farmer School. "We are very grateful to Mr. Von Deylen and his family for this gift."
