Dr. Leslie Stoel wins the 2017 Prestigious ITAA Distinguished Scholar Award

Dr. Leslie Stoel was awarded the 2017 prestigious ITAA Distinguished Scholar Award! Dr. Stoel is a Professor in the Fashion program, in the Department of Marketing and College of Creative Arts at Miami University. She has made over 90 research presentations at national and international conferences and authored or co-authored about 40 publications in leading academic journals in retail and fashion merchandising fields.

The criteria for selection of an ITAA distinguished scholar include significant contributions in research or creative scholarship, scope and breadth of professional presentations. Professor Stoel has established a record of accomplishments that clearly meet these criteria.

Remarkably, Dr. Stoel has received multiple research awards and recognitions in retail and merchandising disciplines. She has received federal grants from US Department of Agriculture and US Department of Education and an external grant from the Center for Business Education and Research (CIBER) Fellowship.

Dr. Stoel’s work has been pursued in three research streams. First, in the area of rural and small business development, she has examined the influence of community institutional environments and relationships on small business and community success. Second, she has also examined the interface between consumer and retailer in the rural environment. Lastly, her research has also contributed significantly to understanding the consumer-retailer interface in the technology-mediated merchandising environment, particularly focusing on the effectiveness of retailer merchandising strategies applied in the online setting and consumer online shopping behavior.

ITAA is a professional, educational association composed of scholars, educators, and students in the textile, apparel, and merchandising disciplines in higher education. ITAA welcomes professionals employed in those fields who wish to join with members of the Association in the pursuit of knowledge, interchange of ideas, and dissemination of knowledge through meetings, special events, and publications. ITAA promotes the discovery, dissemination, and application of knowledge and is a primary resource for its members in strengthening leadership and service to society.
