On-Campus Student Employment

F-1 students do not need any special authorization to work on campus, however we advise that you do not work during your first semester at Miami . A maximum of 20 hrs per week is allowed during school year; but a student can be full-time during vacation periods. Assistantship hours are counted in total hours.  Sometimes the policies regarding on campus employment differ between your immigration status and what the student employment or academic personnel office will allow.  Please consult with both ISSS and the appropriate employment office to make sure you all following all regulations regarding work.

On-campus employment for J-1 students is allowed, but it requires prior authorization.  This process can be accomplished through the “J-1 On Campus Work Authorization” e-form in Interlink. You do not need a job offer in order to be authorized, so if you are interested in working on campus at any point during your program it is recommended that you do so sooner rather than later.
