Where in the World is Miami Wednesday: Alicante, Spain

By Megan Schulte, student study abroad ambassador

For this week’s “where in the world is Miami Wednesday,” we are traveling to Alicante, Spain to learn about Miami student, Lucy Thomas’s Spanish adventure.

food in SpainWhat program you are on: CIEE

If it’s a Miami or Third-Party program: Third-Party

What you are studying with your program: All of my classes are in Spanish but I am taking Colloquial Advanced Conversational Spanish, The Camino de Santiago, Three Cultures in Spain and Spanish Art.

Why you chose the program that you did: It is a completely integrative experience as everything is in Spanish. There are great opportunities for volunteering and jobs and a great academic reputation.

Coolest place/thing that you have done so far:  I went to Seville and did a road trip across Spain! I also loved Valencia and going to places right outside of my city.

Favorite part about the program: I am teaching an English class which I absolutely love. My classes in general are very interesting, but the friends I have made are definitely the best part!

How study away has affected/changed you so far: My fluency in Spanish has been hugely increased which has been my main goal, but I truly think the friends I have made here will last a lifetime. It has also given me a chance to see how independent I am and the adventurous side of me has come out so much every time I have a chance to travel. I feel like this has been a great experience of highs and lows and it has given me a chance to see my capability to adapt which is wonderful.

Catch us next week as we continue to travel around the world to feature the amazing opportunities that Miami students are taking!
