Where in the World is Miami Wednesday: Luxembourg
In this week's, Where in the World is Miami Wednesday, we are traveling to Miami's campus in Luxembourg to feature senior Beth Pfohl.
When Beth was touring colleges in high school, she would write them off her list if they said that theatre majors shouldn't study abroad, or even worse, if they said that they were not allowed. Studying abroad, for her, was a non-negotiable, and Miami’s MUDEC program made this dream possible.
Program
Program Name: Miami University Dolibois European Center (MUDEC)
Topic of Studies: General Miami Studies
Why you chose the program that you did
It was the program that fit best into my very busy schedule while still allowing me to be abroad for a full semester and to fulfill Miami Plan requirements. Plus Europe is always where I wanted to study!
Coolest place/thing that you have done so far
My cousin and I visited Colmar, France and Strasbourg, France, which is where our last name comes from. We learned that the area is famous for gingerbread and for its beautiful, fairytale-like buildings, and we even found evidence of our last name in some shop names!Favorite part about the program
The study tour component and the fact that we don't have classes on Friday make it easier to travel. I am so excited to be able to spend time exploring places a bit more distant like Slovenia thanks to the MUDEC schedule. What advice do you wish you would have gotten before studying abroad?
How has study abroad affected/changed you so far?
I’m far more independent now, even after just a few short weeks. Getting lost and having to communicate in your non-native language forces you to be to be self-reliant and to use your own wits to solve problems, sometimes even without the help of technology.
Catch us next week as we continue to travel around the world to feature the amazing opportunities that Miami students are taking!
Would you or someone you know want to be featured in a future Where in the World is Miami Wednesday?
