Global Initiatives and the office of Study Abroad and Away held the annual Faculty Director Appreciation Reception yesterday evening, where the John E. Dolibois Faculty Award for Innovation in Global Programming presentation took place. Congratulations to Dr. Sooun Lee, professor of information systems and analytics, for receiving the 2018 award, based on the Farmer School of Business 2018 Korea Olympic Program.

After receiving the award at the reception, we asked Lee why this program has made an impact at Miami University. Lee stated, "twenty students participated in the FSB Olympic Korea trip. I’ve never had a bond built with students during an international program quite like this one. We became a family in such a short time. I’ll never forget it."

Dr. Lee and Dr. Cheryl D. YoungCheryl D. Young, PhD, Assistant Provost of Global Initiatives, expressed: “I have worked with Sooun for many years, and he is committed to culturally immersive learning experiences for students. The Korea Olympic program integrated experiential learning, globally focused curriculum and pedagogy, and innovative program design that is transformational for students.”

During our interview with Lee following the reception, he further explained the importance of international education, "I recommend that all Miami students study abroad. Study abroad works to broaden experiences, show our students the world, and allow for them to meet people outside of this country. Skills gained in addition to academics simply enrich the overall experience of our students’ studies, confidence levels, and their understanding about the world significantly and quickly.”
