Intensive English Programs

The American Culture and English program (ACE-G), in Oxford, is for students who have one of the following test scores:

  • TOEFL iBT 65-79
  • IELTS 5.5-6.0
  • ELS 112 Certificate

As an ACE-G student, you will take 3 English language courses and 1 credit hour of a graduate level course. ACE-G is one semester (4 months) of study that you have to complete with a B average in order to begin your academic studies. The English Language Center (ELC), Middletown, is for students who have one of the following test scores:

  • TOEFL iBT below 65
  • IELTS below 5.5
  • ELS 109 Certificate

As an ELC student, you will begin your English language study in one of the three ELC levels. Each level takes approximately one semester (4 months) to complete. Once you have successfully completed Level 3, you may begin your studies at ACE-G at the Oxford Campus. Admission Requirements

Application

  • Submit an online application and pay a non-refundable $50 application fee. You must chose yes for conditional admission and indicate the term you want to start your English studies.
  • If you have limited Internet access, you may request a paper application by contacting the Graduate School at applygrad@miamioh.edu.

Baccalaureate or Professional Degree

  • A cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75 out of 4
  • Applicants for graduate study must have earned a university degree at least equivalent to the US Baccalaureate degree. Typically, 16 years of schooling with four years of full-time study at the university level, culminating with the award of a first or second degree. Applicants must submit 1 copy of their academic record/transcript at the time of application. We accept unofficial documents at the time of application and perform credential evaluations in the Graduate School free of charge.

  • If you are admitted to Miami University, you must have an official final transcript from your Baccalaureate institution and all schools attended after receiving your Baccalaureate sent directly to the Graduate School in order to register for classes. Photocopies and notarized copies of academic records are not accepted as official. Documents can be certified as true copies by a U.S. Consular official or by a recognized educational authority in the applicant's home country. Records issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a literal (not interpretive) certified English translation.

Application Deadline

  • Deadline dates vary for graduate departments, so we strongly encourage you contact your graduate department of interest directly for more information. All application materials must be received by the deadline date for your application to be reviewed for admission.

Immigration Documents

  • You will need to provide a financial affidavit (bank statement, scholarship letter) before you can receive your immigration documents. While you do not need to submit affidavits during your admission process, the Office of International Students and Scholar Services will be unable to issue any immigration documentation to you until you submit these.
