Writing Hours and Retreats

The Howe Center for Writing Excellence provides intensive opportunities for faculty to make progress and receive support and feedback on their own writing projects.

Weekly Writing Hours

Faculty and graduate students are invited to drop-in for any length of time to work quietly on their writing or to take advantage of feedback from HWC writing consultants. We provide free coffee and power for your laptops. The King Café is downstairs for snacks.

No registration needed.

Note: Faculty, graduate students, and faculty or dissertation writing groups are also welcome to use the Howe Writing Center space in King Library all day on Saturdays and Sundays until noon. King Library's recently renovated Faculty Reading Room (1st floor) and Graduate Student Reading Room (2nd floor) are also available anytime the library is open.

Writing Retreats (Formerly Boot Camps)

In 2018-19, Boot Camps have been renamed to Writing Retreats. Attendees spend one full day directing their undivided attention and focus toward their writing, in a quiet space with no talking and no distraction. The HCWE provides a continental breakfast and a simple lunch, along with water, coffee, and tea. If you have specific dietary needs, you are welcome to bring your own food and drinks. Space is limited to 45 and fills quickly.

All writing retreats are 8:30am - 4pm in King 133 (HCWE classroom). Register through the form below. Within two weeks, you'll receive a GoogleMeeting invite to confirm your registration.
