The Tri Delt Sundial and MacCracken Hall

Class Visits

The HWC offers both on-campus and online class visits. During these visits, a consultant can introduce writing center services and events, explain HWC policies, guide students through scheduling appointments, and answer any questions.

If you are teaching a course on the Oxford campus, our consultants can visit your classroom to introduce the HWC's on-campus appointments. We will use the classroom computer to walk your students through our website and scheduling system. These class visits usually take about 30 minutes, depending on the course. For on-campus visits, faculty must be present, and students must bring their laptops or tablets to class.

Instructors are also welcome to share our welcome video and scheduling instruction videos without scheduling a class visit.

We also offer online class visits through Canvas or other technologies used within your course. Online class visits introduce the HWC's live online (synchronous) and written online (asynchronous) appointments. These visits can be synchronous or asynchronous.

  • In a synchronous class visit, we talk with you and your students over video and use screensharing to walk your students through our website and scheduling system. If video is not an option, you can share the pre-recorded videos below, and we will answer questions in real-time over Google Docs or text-chat.
  • In an asynchronous class visit, you can share the following videos with your course and create a discussion board, blog, or Google Doc for your students to post questions, which we will answer promptly.

Instructors are also welcome to share the following videos without scheduling a class visit.

Request a Class Visit

Class visits are scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis, according to consultant availability. We have the following scheduling policies:

  • Each instructor can schedule one class visit per semester. Instructors who teach multiple courses can use our materials to introduce the HWC to their other courses.
  • Class visits must be scheduled at least 1 week before the class period and at least 1 week into the semester. We have found class visits to be most beneficial after the first writing assignment has been introduced.

Request a class visit through the form below. You will receive a response within a few days.
