The Howe Center for Writing Excellence offers a variety of programs and resources to help faculty from all disciplines effectively include writing in their courses. Please look through our offerings below and feel free to set up a consultation.


  • Writing Assignment Advice Drop-In Hours. Stop by the Howe Center for Writing Excellence (King 139) any Friday morning during the semester between 8:30-12 and talk over your course goals and assignment with one of our staff.
  • Teaching Consultations. Get individualized feedback on how to effectively include writing in your classroom.
  • Department Consultations & Workshops.  Request a 1-2 hour departmental/program workshop customized to your group's needs.


  • Introduce Students to the HWC. Explore various resources to introduce your students to our services, including brief introductory videos, syllabi statements, and information about types of appointments.
  • Disciplinary Writing Guides. Browse resources for disciplinary writing conventions and practices created by Miami HCWE Faculty Writing Fellows.
  • Writing Handouts. Browse our library of over 40 online handouts on topics such as grammar, various types of writing, and integrating sources that you can share with your students.
