On-Campus Appointments

Schedule Appointments

All students and alumni are welcome to meet with a writing consultant on the Oxford campus. Our locations are King Library, B.E.S.T Library, Peabody Hall, Farmer School of Business, and the Gross Center. You and your consultant will do the following:

  1. Discuss your assignment and goals for the appointment
  2. Plan an agenda for the appointment
  3. Talk about your project and read through your paper
  4. Discuss ways you can revise and new approaches you can take for your current and future writing

Scheduling

You have two ways to schedule appointments with us.

  1. Schedule one-time appointments
  2. Request a recurring appointment for 4 or more weeks

The Howe Writing Center is committed to helping provide accommodations for all Miami writers who have scheduled writing center consultations. To request an accommodation, or to inquire about the accommodations we can provide (i.e., viewing or accessing materials in alternative formats, using assistive technologies during an in-person consultation), please contact Dr. Lizzie Hutton (huttoneb@miamioh.edu) at least 2 business days prior to your consultation. Know that we are also happy to collaborate with the Miller Center in providing such accommodations.

Preparing for Your Appointment

You should come to your appointment with some ideas about what you'd like to work on for 45 minutes. You can bring a print or digital copy of your paper. You can also bring your own computer or use one of the writing center's laptops. We ask that you also bring the following, when applicable:

  • The assignment sheet and course syllabus
  • Any writing you’ve already done, including notes, outlines, or early drafts
  • Relevant books, articles, or other resources you’re using
  • Any feedback you’ve already received

No-Show Policy

If you need to cancel your appointment, please do so as soon as possible. You can cancel by returning to our scheduling system (see our canceling instructions) or calling 513-529-6100.

If you do not cancel your appointment and do not show up for your appointment, your appointment will be marked as a “no-show.” After 2 no-shows, you will lose access to your online account and must schedule by emailing hwconline@MiamiOH.edu.
