Nurse Supervisor
General Function
Oversees and coordinates the nursing operations in order to aid in the medical treatment and care of patients. Directly supervises other classified staff.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities—Essential Functions
- Supervises nursing staff; schedules employees to ensure full and adequate coverage of department at all times; monitors and evaluates performance.
- Reviews and updates policies and procedures as they relate to nursing operations.
- Researches and evaluates equipment and supplies; makes decisions regarding the purchase of materials.
- Serves as liaison for unit; communicates with other departments inside and outside of Student Health Services to ensure quality care for patients.
- Performs a variety of related administrative tasks including reviewing and approving payroll, monitoring condition of equipment and making any necessary calls for service and conducting performance reviews.
- Performs nursing duties as needed to ensure full coverage of department.

Direction Received: Reports to Health Service Administrator
Direction Given: Direct supervision of classified staff (nurses)
Minimum Requirements
Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing and three years of nursing experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be licensed by state as Registered Nurse.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics
- Knowledge of medical procedures and terminology
- Supervisory skills
- Knowledge of office procedures and equipment
Working Conditions
Physical effort usually requires considerable walking, standing, and lifting of materials weighing 20 to 50 pounds. Somewhat unpleasant working conditions with some health hazards.
