General Function

Maintains and performs complex repair on computer hardware and software. Directly supervises classified employees.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities—Essential Functions

  • Installs, tests, and maintains computer hardware; performs routine cleaning and preventive maintenance.
  • Identifies cause of computer hardware problems; resolves or contacts appropriate person for additional assistance.
  • Installs, tests, and debugs client software.
  • Assists users of department software; answers questions and provides information.
  • Maintains an inventory of supplies and tools, reorders as necessary.
  • Supervises other classified staff. Schedule work and assign tasks; monitor and review performance.

Reporting Relationships

Direction Received: Reports to Computer Services Manager, Director-SBA Technologies, or department chair

Direction Given: Direct supervision of classified staff. May provide functional supervision to a group of student employees who work on an ongoing basis.

Minimum Requirements

Requires an associate's degree in Computer Science and three years of computer experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics

  • Knowledge of computer maintenance and repair
  • Knowledge of computer operating sytems
  • Knowledge of software used by department

Working Conditions

Physical effort usually requires considerable walking, standing, and lifting of materials weighing 25 to 50 pounds. Periodic assignments given which entail dealing with modestly unpleasant working conditions.
