Health Ownership

Healthy Miami is committed to creating a supportive culture of health and wellness for our employees and their family members. One way to aid in this is through health ownership, which is defined as actively engaging in your own health and wellness. See some healthcare money-saving tips below.

Choosing Your Provider

  • Use in-network providers. In-network deductibles and co-insurance amounts are lower than out-of-network benefits.
    • The UnitedHealthCare Choice Plus Network is nationwide.
    • To search for a provider within the network, log into your umr.com account or call UMR customer service at 866-936-6003.
  • Use tier 1 facilities for inpatient & outpatient services whenever possible. Coverage is provided at 90% co-insurance after the deductible for these facilities.
  • Use independent labs and advanced imaging centers whenever possible.
    • Visit Independent Labs and Imaging Centers.
    • PPO plan members receive 100% coverage (no deductible) when using these facilities.
    • HDHP members see a lower contracted rate for the service at these facilities versus a hospital setting.

Participating in the Premium Discount Program

  • Complete all the steps in the program by November 15 to receive the full discount on your health premiums.
  • Check your progress, complete steps and register for a screening in your Healthy Miami account.

Preventive Care

  • The Miami health plans (PPO and HDHP) cover preventive screenings once per calendar year. You do not need to wait 365 days for these procedures or visits. Included screenings:
    • Routine eye exam
    • Mammogram
    • PAP test
  • One colonoscopy (preventive or diagnostic) is covered at 100% for both the PPO and the HDHP plans. This includes the in-network facility, physician and anesthesiologist claims.
    • Pathology claims are not processed at 100%.
    • Endoscopy claims are not included in the 100% coverage.

Choosing Wisely

The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Foundation's Choosing Wisely initiative, launched in 2012, centers around conversations between providers and patients. It is a national effort to urge patients and physicians to have conversations to ensure the right care is delivered at the right time. Choosing Wisely provides articles and tip sheets that focus on everything from coping with serious illness, to preventive care, to the dos and don'ts of common tests. The more educated you are, the more prepared you will be to ask questions of your physician, understand recommendations, and weigh the pros and cons of different treatment options.

Glossary of Terms

Health and health insurance terms can be difficult to understand. UnitedHealth Group has created the Just Plain Clear® glossary with thousands of terms defined in plain, clear language.
