Scholarships

Thanks to the generosity of many individuals and some companies, the Miami University Dolibois European Center (MUDEC) is able to offer scholarship assistance to a number of qualified Miami students.

Scholarships are also available through individual departments and Global Initiatives. In some cases, the Luxembourg Office recommends students specifically for those scholarships.

Most of the scholarships awarded by Luxembourg Office are based on both merit and documented need.

Semester and Full-Year Programs

The Miami Luxembourg Program is very affordable and is an outstanding educational value. The advantage of attending Miami's campus in Luxembourg is that all scholarships and financial aid applied during a normal semester at Miami will apply to the student's semester in Luxembourg. If you are interested in applying for additional Miami or national scholarships, the Study Abroad Office staff is happy to assist you with those applications.

Below we have listed the most common study abroad scholarships for which Luxembourg Semester Program students are eligible. Please visit Miami's Study Abroad Financing pages for a full listing of study abroad scholarships.

Luxembourg-Specific Scholarships

For the Luxembourg Program-specific scholarships, all admitted students are considered and NO separate application is required, though you do have the opportunity to explain extenuating financial circumstances in your Luxembourg application. These scholarships are generally awarded in late-May (for Fall and early-decision Spring students) and early-October (for Spring students).

The Luxembourg Office realizes that it is helpful to know the average range of MUDEC scholarships in order to make plans. Because the exact amounts in a given year depend on the number of donations received, the interest earned, and the number of students enrolled, we can only provide a rough idea of the possible range. Last year, scholarships averaged about $1,500, but some students received more or less than this amount.

Usually, we are able to assist many of the students who have documented financial need through FAFSA. We take into account a student's GPA, information supplied on the application form, university conduct record, essay, and letters of reference.

Summer Programs

Summer aid awards are based on any remaining financial aid eligibility from the current academic year. Aid eligibility will be determined once you register for summer courses, have a FAFSA on file, and have completed all outstanding requirements. Generally, you are eligible for additional federal student loan funds only if you have the number of hours required to advance in grade level by the end of the spring semester.

If all federal student loan eligibility has been exhausted, you may want to consider a Federal Direct PLUS loan or a private loan. Students who received a Pell Grant for the fall or spring semester may be eligible for an additional Pell Grant for summer study.
