Student published in collegiate scholars magazine

Oct 07, 2009

A photograph titled "Spring Showers" by Miami University student Rachel Nourse was published in the 2009 summer issue of The Collegiate Scholar, an online literary magazine created by the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS).

Nourse, a second-year integrated English language education major from Columbus, was among 14 other college students whose work was chosen to be published.

"Spring Showers" was taken by Nourse in late May and depicts a close up view of several raindrops embedded on the pedals of a rose.

"I probably spent an hour outside in our flowerbeds snapping pictures of rain dabbled flowers," said Nourse. "I decided to submit to The Collegiate Scholar because I was really proud of how the picture turned out and I wanted to let others enjoy it as well."

Nourse's passion for photography developed during her junior year of high school when she enrolled in her first photography class.

The Collegiate Scholar acknowledges those who are able to integrate both their creative and their scholastic pursuits. NSCS invites first- and second-year students who obtain a grade point average of a 3.4 or above and who are also ranked in the top 20 percent of their class to become members.
