Miami to award 3,967 degrees during spring commencement

Miami University will award 3,967 degrees during its 172nd annual spring commencement ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 7, in Yager Stadium.  Please note: rain is in the forecast.  If it is mild-to-moderate rain, the ceremony will be held. Please dress accordingly.  Rain gear will be provided to graduation candidates.  However, if severe weather is predicted, the university ceremony may be shortened and/or canceled. Information on the status of the ceremony will be broadcast on 88.5 FM and 91.7 FM and on this Web page.

President David Hodge will preside at the ceremony. No tickets are required.

Indra Nooyi, chairman and chief executive officer of PepsiCo, will address the graduates of the class of 2011. She will receive an honorary doctorate of law. See her address online.

Degrees to be awarded include 24 certificates, 244 associates, 3,296 bachelor’s, 385 master’s and 18 doctorates of philosophy. 
These include degrees awarded to students (except doctoral students) who fulfill graduation requirements in August. This year a separate ceremony will not be held in August for master’s and doctoral degree recipients. 



During the ceremony, doctoral candidates will be individually recognized and hooded; master's degree candidates will be individually recognized; bachelor's and associate's degree candidates will be recognized by division; and ROTC candidates will be commissioned.

Recognition ceremonies for each college and school, at which names of undergraduates will be read and they will receive their diploma covers, will be held Saturday and Sunday. Details are at www.muohio.edu/commencement.
