Miami's housing and dining services wins grand prize, gold and more
Aug 05, 2011Miami University won a grand prize, a gold and a silver award in the
large school category of the 2011 Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards
competition sponsored by the National Association of College and
University Food Services (NACUFS). The awards are considered the
highest honors in collegiate foodservice.
Grand-prize winners were announced at the NACUFS National Conference
July 16 in Dallas; judging took place April 28-30 by foodservice
professionals from the more than 550 institutions that make up NACUFS.
Miami’s housing, dining, recreation and business services department received the following honors:
• A grand prize and a gold prize for Bell Tower Place, in the
category “Retail Sales-Multiple Concepts/Marketplace.” The grand-prize
winner was selected from among all other gold winners from the same
category.
• A silver prize for its Panache restaurant, in the category “Retail Sales-Single Concept.”
• An honorable mention for Carillon Catering, Bill Nye special event, in the category “Catering-Special Event.”
Since 2004, Miami has won a total of 50 culinary awards, including
nine grand prizes and 15 gold prizes, in the Loyal E. Horton Dining
Awards competition — more than any other university in North America,
according to Nancy Heidtman, director of dining and culinary support services.
