Percussion Ensemble concert Nov. 14 with composer Michael Burritt

Percussion composer Michael Burritt will perform with Miami’s Concert Percussion Ensemble at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, in Hall Auditorium.

Burritt is professor of percussion studies in the School of Music at Northwestern University. He is a leading percussion soloist and pedagogue specializing in the areas of marimba and solo percussion. In addition to frequent performance engagements, Burritt is active as a composer. He has published two books of etudes and numerous solo and chamber works for marimba and percussion.

Burritt’s three solo recordings feature his original compositions and works written expressly for him, as well as a Carnegie Hall solo recital. He has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.
William Albin, who is director of the group, founded the Miami percussion ensemble in 1975.

The program will include several Burritt works including “Doomsday Machine” and “Blue Flame Quintet.”

The concert is free and open to the public, co-sponsored by Malletech and the Zildian Company. For more information, call 9-3014.
