Global Rhythms to present ‘Starry Nights in Bombay’ Nov. 18

Global Rhythms and the Collegiate Chorale will present a concert, “Starry Nights in Bombay,” at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, in Hall Auditorium.

Directed by Srinivas Krishnan (artist-in-residence) and conducted by Ethan Sperry (music), the combined ensembles will perform music from India, the Caribbean and Latin America including Haitian Voodoo music and songs from Bollywood movie/musicals. The concert will also include pop music by artists such as Sting who have been heavily influenced by world music.

The concert will feature special guest drummer Jeff Queen who is best known for his virtuoso snare drum playing in the national tour of Blast. Dancers from a variety of cultures will also perform.

Tickets, $5, are available at the box office in Shriver Center, at or 9-3200. A “superpass” ticket for $12 includes the concert, a Diwali performance at 2 p.m. and an Indian dinner 5-7 p.m.

The Global Rhythms concert is co-sponsored by the Center for American and World Cultures, the Collegiate Chorale, the department of music, the honors and scholars program, the division of student affairs, the Richard T. Farmer School of Business and the School of Interdisciplinary Studies.
