Winter concerts Dec. 2 and 3
Miami’s Dance Theatre will present winter concerts at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, in Hall Auditorium. The concert is a blend of styles, with choreography by students, guest artists and Dance Theatre director Lana Kay Rosenberg.
“Libertango,” choreographed by Rosenberg, is set to music by Argentinean composer Astor Piazzolla. The work explores the merging of modern dance, tango and flamenco movement styles. Also on the concert is Rosenberg’s “What is Behind the Curtain.”
Using motifs inspired by the effects of isolation on the human experience, guest choreographer Daphne McCoy of Oxford created her work, “Isolation.”
Guest choreographer Judith Mikita was inspired by Eric Whitacre’s choral composition, “Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine,” for her work, “A Leonardo Dream.” Mikita teaches at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
“Letting Go,” choreographed by Danielle Shoreman is about finding yourself after heartbreak. Shoreman graduated from Miami with a degree in zoology in 2006 and is working as a clinical research coordinator at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
Sophomore Liz O’Conner has choreographed “Unravel Me” and Jenna Green, a sophomore interior design major, has choreographed “Torrential Hope.”
After the Saturday concert, Dance Theatre will offer a “talkback” session.
