Works by young painters at Hiestand
Works by finalists in the eighth annual Miami University Young Painters Competition will be featured in an exhibition that opens Wednesday, Dec. 13, at Miami’s Hiestand Galleries, School of Fine Arts.
Winner of the $10,000 William (Miami ’36) and Dorothy Yeck best of show purchase award will be announced at a reception at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19.
Jerry Saltz, senior art critic for the Village Voice, is juror for this year’s competition.
Non-representational works were solicited for the 2007 competition from U.S. residents ages 25-35 who have achieved a significant degree of success as an emerging artist of noteworthy talent. Works by finalists will be exhibited through Feb. 9, 2007.
“Abstructions,” an exhibition of works by the 2006 winner, Sarah McKenzie, also will be at the Hiestand Dec. 13 through Feb. 9. McKenzie is on the faculty of the Cleveland Institute of Art. She received a bachelor’s degree from Yale University and an MFA from the University of Michigan. Other recent exhibitions include “Constructions” and “Aerial Views” in Colorado galleries and “Urbanscapes” in Cleveland.
Hiestand hours are 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free. For more information, call 9-1883.
