Lisa Weems has been granted tenure and promoted to associate professor of educational leadership.
Weems joined the Miami faculty in 2000. She received a bachelor’s degree in integrated studies in culture and education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a master’s in sociology and a Ph.D. in cultural studies in education from Ohio State University. She is the 2001 recipient of the Outstanding Dissertation Award from the American Educational Research Association (curriculum division).
Weems’ research interests include cultural studies in transnational perspective; feminist, post-structural and post-colonial theory; and queer studies. Her current research focuses on diasporic representation and activism among youth of color.
Weems has published journal articles in Qualitative Inquiry, Journal of Teacher Education and Foucault Studies and several book chapters.
She has been an active member in the area of social foundations of education, including leadership positions in the Ohio Valley Philosophy of Education Society and the American Educational Studies Association.
