Class designs new look for cruisers

Sgt. Jim Squance of the Oxford police department and Miami senior Kathy Hitch show off the police vehicle’s new look created by Miami graphic design students. Students in Art 352: Identity Systems, taught by associate professor Tom Efflers, created 18 designs that officers narrowed down to three and asked for community input before combining several elements for the final design.

Two cruisers and one truck currently sport the new look. All vehicles will eventually feature the design as replacements are made to the 25-vehicle fleet.

The design had not been updated since 1992.

Hitch, an accountancy major and criminology minor from Kettering, worked as an intern for the Oxford police this summer.
