Senate accepts e-Report for notification of final votes

At University Senate Aug. 27, Provost Jeffrey Herbst announced President David Hodge’s acceptance of the recommendations of Senate and the ad hoc committee on smoking to establish Miami as a smoke-free environment as well as the recommendation of the ad hoc committee to include a hospitality exception to the smoke-free policy.

By a general consent vote, Senate elected to regard the e-Report as a suitable communication medium by which to notify the university community of actions of Senate.

Senate heard reports from Herbst and William McKenna, chair, executive committee. The 2006-2007 annual reports of the standing committees and advisory committees of Senate were received.

Senate approved revisions to the criteria for awarding honorary degrees (Miami University Policy and Information Manual, Section 2.10) and the Distinguished Service Award.

Also approved were minutes from the April 9 and April 23 meetings.

The next meeting of University Senate is scheduled for Sept. 10 in 111 Harrison Hall.
