Students, staff and organizations take regional awards
Miami students, staff and organizations were recognized at the Mid America regional conference of the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA), held Oct. 25-28 in St. Charles, Ill.
Emily Garritson, a senior environmental science major, was named Outstanding Undergraduate Student, one of three recognized. Garritson is president of the Shriver Center Program Board.
Three individuals received honorable mention recognition in other categories: Carly Stamey, a second-year graduate student in college student personnel who is the adviser for AfterDark; Vanessa Braun, who joined Miami’s staff in January as assistant director of student activities and leadership and adviser to Campus Activities Council (CAC); and J.S. Bragg, who is starting his third year as assistant director of student activities and leadership at Miami and is an adviser to program board and Sigma Alpha Pi.
Miami’s program board received the Excellence in Programming Award as best overall in the region for those with an annual budget under $35,000 and several honorable mention awards. CAC received a Graphic Design Award in the posters/fliers category for a Parents Weekend 2006 poster.
The NACA Mid America region consists of schools in states including Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and West Virginia. Bragg and Gary Manka (director, student activities and leadership) served on the Mid America conference committee.
