Shelly Jarrett Bromberg

Shelly Jarrett Bromberg has been granted tenure and promoted to associate professor in Spanish and Portuguese. She holds a doctorate in comparative literature from the University of Texas, Austin, a master’s degree in Latin American studies from the University of Kansas, a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from the University of Colorado at Denver and a G.E.D. from the New Mexico State Board of Education.

Before coming to Miami, she was a lecturer at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago.

Jarrett Bromberg’s work spans the Oxford and Hamilton campuses and American and Latin American studies as well as the department of Spanish and Portuguese. Along with research and publications in Caribbean/Latino cultural studies, her public scholarship includes initiatives on community organizing and deliberate dialogue across many community experiences and expressions. In September 2006 she was awarded an NAACP “Outstanding Service to the Community Award.” In April 2007 she received the Su Casa Hispanic Center “César Chávez” Award for Outstanding Service to the Greater Cincinnati Hispanic Community.
