Joe Kennedy, Miami University professor emeritus in the department of mathematics, has received the Christofferson-Fawcett Award. The Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics (Ohio CTM) presented Kennedy this award at its annual meeting on Friday, Nov. 13, in Cincinnati.

The award acknowledged Kennedy for his notable and motivational professional services to the mathematics community. Kennedy was a member of the Miami faculty for 35 years.

Kennedy also has been a member of the Mathematics Association of America panel for 20 years serving on committees for 13 years and as chair for six years, as well as serving as editor of the Ohio Journal of School Mathematics for seven years. He has composed several publications, including articles in mathematics education journals, two books, and has contributed to the 37th Yearbook of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

The Christofferson-Fawcett Award is granted annually to those who provide a lifetime contribution to mathematics education. It is named after two renowned Ohio mathematics educators, Halbert C. Christofferson from the McGuffey Laboratory School at Miami, and Harold P. Fawcett from Ohio State University.
