Three Miami faculty have been awarded grants from the Philip and Elaina Hampton Fund for Faculty International Initiatives fall 2009 competition.
William Albin, professor of music, was awarded $3,510 for research in Bali, “Collecting and Transcribing a Library of Traditional Music Compositions for the Miami University Balinese Gamelan Gong Kebyar Ensemble.”
Lisa McLaughlin, associate professor of communication and of women’s studies, was awarded $4,000 for research in India, “Women, Entrepreneurial Development, and Information Technology in India.”
Huatong Sun, assistant professor of English, was awarded $3,000 for research in China, “A Study of the Educational Needs of Offshore Outsourcing Technical Communicators in China.”
The Hampton Fund, Miami’s primary vehicle supporting research conducted internationally by faculty, awards grants during two rounds of competitions annually, in the fall and spring. Proposals are read by the Hampton Reading Committee, comprised of members appointed by division deans and the chair, David Keitges, director of the office of international education.
