Michael Vincent, curator of Miami University’s Willard Sherman Turrell Herbarium, has been elected president of the Society of Herbarium Curators (SHC) for 2010-2012.
The SHC, formally organized in 2004, has been recognized as an affiliate society by the Association of Southeastern Biologists and the Southern Appalachian Botanical Society. Its purpose is to promote and expand the role of herbaria in botanical research, teaching and service to the community at large and to extend its efforts and influence toward the protection and preservation of endangered herbaria.
Miami’s Turrell Herbarium is Ohio’s largest herbarium, with approximately 620,000 specimens worldwide in geographical and taxonomic coverage. For more information, go to http://www.units.muohio.edu/herbarium/.
