Gokhan Sahin
Gokhan Sahin has been granted tenure and promoted to associate professor of electrical and computer engineering. He received his bachelor’s degree from Bilkent University, Turkey in 1996, his master’s degree in 1997 and his Ph.D. in 2001, from the University of Washington, Seattle, all in electrical engineering. Prior to joining Miami in 2004 he held positions at AT&T Labs, Corvis Corporation, the George Washington University and University of Nebraska. Sahin teaches circuits, electronics, signals and systems and network modeling. His research interests are in computer and communication networks, with a focus on optical and quantum communications, sensor and wireless networks, and network security. Sahin established research and educational collaborations with institutions including Technical University of Dortmund, Siemens, and the Air Force Research Laboratory. He has co-authored more than 35 peer-reviewed articles, a book chapter, and two patents. Sahin’s inventions are currently used in DARPA CORONET, a major national initiative aiming to design the next generation Internet, by a consortium consisting of Telcordia, AT&T, Nortel, and USC. Sahin serves the University Honors Program, SEAS Faculty Advisory Council and Globalization Committee.
