Mary McDonald
Mary McDonald has been promoted to professor of kinesiology and health. She earned a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in 1995 and currently teaches in the department of kinesiology and health and the Western program, and is an affiliate with the women’s studies program. McDonald’s teaching and research focuses on feminist and cultural studies of sport, the media and popular culture, and explores power relations as constituted through relations of race, class, gender and sexuality. Her articles have appeared in such journals as the International Review for the Sociology of Sport, Leisure Studies, American Studies and Sociological Perspectives. She has been guest editor of two special issues of the Sociology of Sport Journal. She is co-editor of Reading Sport: Critical Essays on Power and Representation (Northeastern University Press, 2000), that earned an Outstanding Academic Title award from Choice: Current Reviews for Academic Libraries. McDonald has also served as the president of the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport.
