G. Michael Pratt named dean of the regional campuses

03/25/2010

G. Michael Pratt
G. Michael Pratt, associate vice president for academic affairs at Heidelberg University, has been named dean of the regional campuses for Miami University, including Hamilton, Middletown and the Voice of America Learning Center (VOALC) in West Chester, and will also serve as associate provost for academic affairs. He will begin in those roles July 1.

Pratt is dean of graduate programs and dean of professional programs at Heidelberg, where he has been employed in several capacities since 1983. A tenured professor of anthropology, he has also directed a satellite program for Heidelberg since 2001.

In his roles as dean, Pratt has helped develop and modify the master’s degree curricula in education, counseling and business administration and has oversight for three of Heidelberg’s largest programs: education, business and sports management. For the last eight years he has directed Heidelberg’s independent regional campus at Arrowhead Park, offering nontraditional students a selection of bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He oversaw a successful brand campaign that increased enrollment at the Arrowhead Park campus from 2005-2007.

Among other administrative accomplishments, Pratt developed articulation agreements between Heidelberg and two community colleges. He is heavily involved with the community and has participated in Heidelberg’s faculty exchange program with Tianjin Normal University. He is also involved in efforts to recruit international students.

Pratt began his degree at Miami Middletown and completed it in Oxford in 1973. His master’s and doctoral degrees are from Case Western Reserve University.

Pratt becomes Miami’s first dean of the regional campuses, a new position recommended by a regional campus committee to replace the independent deans at the Hamilton and Middletown campuses and to include Miami’s newest academic site, the VOALC.
