Fiske Guide: Miami among major schools strong in architecture, music and business

The Fiske Guide to Colleges 2011 includes Miami University among more than 300 of "the best and most interesting institutions in the nation;" and also ranks Miami among major schools strong in architecture, music and business.

Miami is listed as one of 20 “Public Universities Strong in Architecture;” one of 25 “Major Universities Strong in Music;” and one of 36 “Public Universities Strong in Business.”

The Fiske Guide also lists economics, accountancy, music, chemistry, botany, microbiology, international studies and architecture as Miami’s strongest programs.

The editors describe Miami as “the honors public university in one of the nation’s largest states,” where undergraduate research gets a lot of attention and “professors are lauded for their knowledge and willingness to help.”

Each college or university selected for inclusion in the Fiske Guide to Colleges 2011 was sent a set of questionnaires directed to the administration that covered topics ranging from their perception of the institution’s mission to the demographics of the student body. Administrators were also asked to distribute a set of questionnaires to a cross section of the student body.

Since Aug. 11, five highly regarded national media outlets have named Miami University to their annual rankings. U.S. News & World Report has honored Miami for its commitment to teaching, Forbes labeled the school a “Best Buy,” PARADE Magazine named it a Top 25 public university, Washington Monthly commended Miami’s graduation success for low-income students and G.I. Jobs designated it a “Military Friendly School.
