Miami faculty perform violin recital Nov. 19

Violinist Harvey Thurmer
Violinist Harvey Thurmer will present a faculty recital at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, in Souers Recital Hall, Center for Performing Arts. He will be joined by Tedrin Blair Lindsey, piano, Francis Cobb, harp and Mary E.M. Harris, viola.

The program, “Almost No Dead White Guys,” offers a “retrospective view of music from bygone eras through 20th century eyes and ears,” with works from four composers.

Thurmer, associate professor of violin at Miami, is currently concertmaster for the Richmond Symphony. Formerly a member of the Oxford String Quartet (the resident quartet at Miami until 2005) he is now a member of the Mercury Piano Trio, Miami 3 and Duo to Go.

Lindsey is a member of the opera faculty at University of Kentucky where he works as vocal coach and music director. He is also pianist with the American Spiritual Ensemble, which will be performing as part of the Miami University Performing Arts Series and as the Cromer/Flory Artists-in-Residence this February.

Cobb, a recent graduate of Vanderbilt University, is currently a member of the harp studio of Gillian Benet-Sella at University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music.

Harris is associate professor of viola at Miami and also a former member of the Oxford String Quartet.

The recital is free and open to the public.
