Please be aware: Oxford police report an assault on Nov. 20, an aggravated robbery on S. College Ave. Tuesday evening and two burglaries over the long weekend.
A male African American student reported to police that at about 3:50 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, on Sycamore Street near Brown Rd., he was approached by two white males who yelled racial slurs and physically assaulted him. The student fought back and the suspects fled. The suspects are described as between 5’9” and 6’ tall. The student received minor injuries.
On Sunday, Nov. 28, a male student reported that he and two friends were robbed at gunpoint by a male suspect while they were walking in the 600 block of S. College Ave. several days earlier. The victim reported that at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 23, he and his friends were robbed of their cash and cell phones by a male who displayed a gun and then fled in a car. No one was injured in the incident. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6 feet tall, 175 pounds wearing a heavy jacket; no description of the vehicle is available. The Oxford police are investigating.
Police report a burglary in a student residence in the 600 block of S. Poplar Ave., in which a windowpane was broken and a camera was stolen sometime between Nov. 23 and Nov. 27. In the 0 block of W. High Street, police report that during the long weekend it appears someone had forced open a locked apartment door. Two television sets and a laptop were reported stolen. No one was reported injured in either burglary.
Police remind everyone to not walk alone at night, and to use the Nighttime Door-to-Door service when appropriate, as well as to remain aware of their surroundings.
