Phillips Hall fitness room reopens


With support and cooperation from the physical education, health, and sports studies department and the recreational sports center, the Employee Health and Well-Being program reopened Phillips Hall Fitness Room 29 for benefit-eligible faculty/staff Monday, Aug. 28. To enhance the fitness experience, Employee Health and Well-Being will also be piloting a personal training service provided by rec sports staff for those employees who want a more structured program to fit their health/fitness needs and goals.

The fitness room hours are the same as last spring: Monday through Thursday from 6-8 a.m., noon-1 pm, and 4-6 p.m.

Personal training sessions will begin Sept. 11. Each employee is eligible for two free 30-minute personal training sessions per semester (more possibly depending on the demand for this service) conducted in the fitness room by a certified personal trainer. Participants must sign up for a personal training session one week in advance and may do so by calling Matt at 9-9268 or by stopping by the fitness room during hours of operation. The personal trainer will be available on Mondays 4-6 p.m., Tuesdays/Thursdays noon-1 p.m., and Wednesdays 6-8 a.m.

Returning patrons should check in with student supervisors on the first visit to the fitness room to make sure a signed waiver is on file. Participants are then free to use the equipment or ask the student supervisor for a reorientation.

Those new to the fitness room can just show up when the room is open and let the student supervisor know that they would like to begin using the fitness room. Participants will need to read and sign the waiver before they can use the exercise equipment. The student supervisor can orient users to the room and equipment before they get started.

Bring a towel. No showers are available.

Directions to Fitness Room 29

The fitness room is in the lower level of Phillips Hall, which is located on Oak Street just north of the new Goggin Ice Arena. Those using the front main entrance to Phillips off Oak Street should turn right when entering the foyer, go to the end of the hallway, open the door and go down the stairs, open door, walk down hallway to double doors, open doors and Room 29 will be straight ahead.

Those who enter Phillips Hall from the back (due east of the CAB South parking lot) should walk down the hall (passing racquetball courts) and through the double doors. A big basketball gym will be on the left. Keep walking until forced to turn right and walk down a ramp. Room 29 will be on the right at the bottom of the ramp.


Parking is available on Oak Street (Red and Green permits) or in the CAB south and student health services lots in the back of Phillips (Red permits only). Parking also is available on the north side of Phillips Hall in the Phillips lot (Red permits only) and the Williams west lot (Red and Green permits). No permit is required to park in the new Campus Avenue parking garage, which costs $1/hour.
