Debra Allison
Miami University's board of trustees approved Dec. 10 the appointment of Debra Allison to vice president for information technology and chief information officer, effective Jan. 1, 2011. Allison has served as interim vice president for the department since November 2007.

As interim vice president, Allison led several initiatives including: implementation of the university’s new Voice over IP phone system; the migration process from Blackboard to Sakai, an open source collaboration and learning environment; managing budget cuts and staffing reductions of nearly 20 percent each; participating in a state-wide shared services initiative to help reduce costs; IT strategic planning; and the outsourcing of student e-mail and calendaring to Google.

As vice president, Allison is responsible for information technology leadership across three campuses, a learning center and the European Center in Luxembourg. Since joining Miami in 1975, Allison has served as a member of the president’s executive council, deputy chief of the information office, information center coordinator and director of support services and client services.

She currently is serving a four-year term on the EDUCAUSE board of directors, a non-profit association that promotes the intelligent use of information technologies in higher education.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s in personnel and guidance from Miami.
