Computer system upgrades and outages scheduled

IT services will perform maintenance and implement changes in the computing environment over the upcoming winter break. This is traditionally a time when demands on systems are lower, reducing the risk that students, faculty or staff will be inconvenienced by the outages and disruptions that this work may cause.

Significant outages to note include:

  • Banner and Blackboard will be unavailable from 10 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, through 2 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5. All Blackboard courses and content, as well as services accessed via Blackboard (including email, BannerWeb, and Kronos) will be unavailable during this 4-hour outage.
  • muConnect/Exchange e-mail and calendaring update Sunday, Dec. 26, between midnight and 6 a.m. Users should have access to the system during this event; however, if you are connected you may need to re-authenticate.
  • muConnect/Exchange e-mail and calendaring outage Monday, Dec. 27 for 10-minutes between midnight and 6 a.m. During the outage messages will be held and delivered when the outage is complete. Connected users will need to re-authenticate to the system.
  • VoIP telephone and voicemail will have system upgrades installed between Monday, Dec. 27, and Friday, Dec. 31. During this time users can expect periodic phone and voicemail outages.
  • High performance computer cluster will be unavailable for part of Monday, Jan. 3, while upgrades are added.

IT services will also provide an upgrade to Office 2010 for computers in most classrooms and labs on the Oxford, Hamilton and Middletown campuses. Several courses that teach the Microsoft Office suite of products will be using textbooks based on Office 2010, which precipitated this mid-year upgrade.

Office 2010 is available for purchase and use on personally owned computers through eAcademy. Web-based training for Office 2010 is available to faculty, staff and students through Lynda.com.
