An awards ceremony for the 2011 Miami University Young Sculptors Competition for the William and Dorothy Yeck Award will be held at 5:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, in the Hiestand North Gallery.
A reception will be held 5:15-6:30 p.m. in the Hiestand lobby. Sculptor Dann Nardi, competition juror, will give a lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, in room 100 of the art building.
The winner of the Yeck Award will receive $10,000 and the winning sculpture will become part of the Miami University Best Young Sculptors of the Twenty-First Century Collection.
Nardi’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and can be found in a number of public and private collections throughout the United States, including collections at Coca Cola Corporation in Atlanta, Ga., and Prudential Insurance Company in New York. He has received recognition throughout his career, including awards from the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship and the Illinois Arts Council Fellowship Grant.
The Young Sculptors Competition is held every other year and is open to U.S residents from ages 25 to 35 who have previously attained notable recognition for their talent as artists.
An exhibition of the competition finalists runs through Oct. 15 in the Hiestand North Gallery.
