Miami professors ask, "Are You In?"

A diverse group of Miami University professors participated in a flashmob in King Cafe last week as way to express their deep commitment toward making Miami a more inclusive environment.

Ron Becker, associate professor in the department of communication, and Denise McCoskey, associate professor in the department of classics, explained the message behind the event in a commentary, "Are You In?" The commentary is posted on Miami's TownSquare. View a video of the flashmob online.

Part of the commentary explains, "Afterwards, we passed out flyers explaining who we were and articulating our deep interest in starting sustained conversations with students about how it feels to be at Miami and how we could work together to make things better. Beyond those present in King Cafe during the performance, we hope that news of the flashmob (and the video we made of the event) will circulate widely among Miami's community, helping us all to reflect on our campus climate and encouraging our students to think differently about faculty as their partners in this most serious undertaking."
