Dance Theatre to perform to wide range of music

Miami Univerity's Dance Theatre performs Dec. 3-4
Miami University's Dance Theatre will present concerts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, in Hall Auditorium. The concerts combine elements of many dance forms, with music that ranges from Queen and Lady Gaga to Philip Glass and Foday Musa Suso.

Featured will be works choreographed by Dance Theatre director Lana Kay Rosenberg — “Why?” set to music from Western and African composers — and guest artist Dan Weltner (Miami ’85), with “Lite Rock Rehab” set to a combination of hard and soft rock.

Dance theatre alumnae choreographed works include: “Dennis sinned” set to music by Queen, by Margaret Donohue Nelson (Miami’06), a research associate for university advancement; and “No Escape” by Carolann Crittenden (Miami ’10).

Student choreographed works include: “Endless Daydream” by Kristin Bell, sophomore marketing major from Westerville; “Ode to Marilyn” by Caroline Farris, senior art history major from Knoxville, Tenn.; and “Synergy” by Bridgette Rawlins, senior microbiology and clinical laboratory science major from Zanesville. Jenny Hughes-Wilson, a member of dance theatre and a social worker at Lighthouse Youth Services in Cincinnati, choreographed “Timshel.”

A “talkback” will be held after the Saturday performance.
Tickets are free for Miami students at the Miami University box office in the Shriver Center; $6 in advance and $8 at the door for students/seniors; $10 in advance and $12 at the door for general admission. For more information about Dance Theatre, go to dance theatre.
