A bassoonist, a cellist, and a horn player were chosen on Tuesday, Nov. 15, as the winners in the final round of the 2011-2012 Concerto Competition hosted by Miami University's department of music.
Ray Jacinto, bassonist and graduate student; and Molly Jones, cellist; and David Locke, hornist, both juniors, competed with a field of nine finalists for the honor of performing with the Miami University Symphony Orchestra (MUSO) in a special concert to be held the last day of classes next spring in Hall Auditorium.
“I am so very proud of our students,” said Ricardo Averbach, MUSO conductor. "All the candidates without exception performed very well and I know that the decisions were very difficult ones for the judges. They were very impressed by the maturity and musical depth of the winners, with particular sensitivity to strong personalities and artistic convictions in their performances."
