"War, genocide and remembering the Khmer Rouge"


Cathy Schlund-Vials, assistant professor of English and Asian American studies at University of Connecticut, will present "Landscapes of Fear: War, Genocide and Remembering the Khmer Rouge" at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 15, in 1 Upham Hall.

Her talk examines how the Khmer Rouge prison and labor camps, two "Killing Fields" sites, are tied to an expansive redefinition of militarized Cold War landscapes.

Schlund-Vials is author of Modeling Citizenship: Jewish and Asian American Writing) and War, Genocide, and Justice: Cambodian American Memory Work (forthcoming).

Her talk is sponsored by the Asian/Asian American studies and the women’s, gender and sexuality studies programs, the department of English and the Humanities Center.
